Soooo, yeah. The BBC have lost the rights to half – yes half, not all, but half – of Formula One live coverage from 2012 to 2018 to Sky.

For anyone that is willing to shell out for Sky Sports to watch the other half the season live (that number doesn’t include me), they can look forward to “the full Sky Sports treatment.”, according to Barney Francis of Sky Sports. IE, advertisement breaks every 8 minutes and missing all the crucial action.

For the rest of us, the BBC are offering ‘extended highlights’ of the races they won’t be covering later in the day. What the fuck is the point of that? If you don’t watch the race live, there’s no point watching it at all, since there’s no chance of not having it all ruined for you by news coverage of the race results. In fact BBC are one of the worst for this. With football, they say ‘if you don’t want to know the results, look away now.’, but with F1, with no warning, they’ll suddenly blurt out the results and show the best race incidents.

Unless you fancy spending Sunday in a soundproof lead lined room, this compromise is no compromise at all.

And since there’s fuck all point in watching half a season, I guess I’m no longer watching F1. And despite Bernie Ecclestone’s senile dribblings about how wonderful this all is for the fans and how it’ll INCREASE viewership, I’m pretty sure a LOT of people will see things the same way I do and just stop watching/supporting the sport.

Indeed, in May this year, Ecclestone himself said that a move to subscription-only TV would be “suicidal” for Formula One, and again last month insisted that it would never happen.

Now he’s singing a different tune. “It’s good for Formula One,” he said. “For sure there are going to be a lot more people viewing, and a lot more opportunities for people to view, so from that point I’m very happy.”

I smell bullshit, Bernie. You’re a fucking out of touch asshole and in your own words, you just became responsible for the suicide of F1, at a time when viewing figures are at an all time high. Who do you think you’re fooling? This is clearly all about the money… and fuck the fans.

Of course, at least with Sky you have the choice of subscribing or not based upon your opinion of their quality of content. Which I choose to exercise by not subscribing. With the BBC, they can do what the fuck they like, because we are breaking the laws of our country if we don’t pay to ‘subscribe’ to their channel, whether we choose to watch it or not. And let’s face it, the BBC has been in decline for years.

Still, I’m sure we can all look forward to a half dozen new reality tv shows with the money saved, eh?

I am on vodafone so i have called to say i will be going to orange as they McLaren sponsors. I drink 1 can of redbull a day that will stop. I will do the epetitions I have email fota. I rent my house so no sky dish virgin & bt tv will not work as the internet is slow. An £350+ for 9 or 10 races is just shit
So if we all call the sponsors of f1 an say we will jump ship it will help

PS. If you are on sky you can see the race on the bbc so how will you have more viewers
