Speaking of being ripped off… if you’re in the UK, you can’t have failed to see the TV Licensing Ad, with it’s bouncy, jaunty little song about pushing buttons, as someone clicks away online to get their TV licence:

You push a little button and you get hot chocolate
Push a little button and you get some tea
The worlds gone mad just pushing little buttons
But what about you and me?

You push a little button and you make a motor car
Push a little button and you watch TV
Night and Day we’re pushing little buttons
But what about you and me?

Yeah. That. Well, I’d like to offer the BBC some alternative lyrics that ring truer of what they’re actually ‘selling’:

You push a little button and you get ripped off
Push a little button if you want to watch any tv
The worlds gone mad just pushing little buttons
But what about you and me?

You push a little button and give us your money
Push a little button or you’ll go to jail
Night and Day better push that little button
Even if you never watch the BBC!

We know it’s high time we went to subscription
But right now we’re  all very rich
If we had to stand or fall on the strength of our content
We’d die before you could say ‘life’s a bitch’!

(I never claimed to be a good lyricist, but it fits in my head. And it’s way more honest.)
